The water of the creek flows swiftly
over roots and rocks and things.
I listen to the tales it tells.
I hear the many songs it sings.

Crickets chirping in the shade
join in song with robin and meadowlark.
By night the busy mice and shrew
hide from the owl hooting in the dark.
Silvery fish swim in deep dark pools
away from the fisherman's baited hook,
underneath feathery water plants
in some cozy fishes nook.

Standing on the muddy shore
awaits the anxious fisherman
trying to fool the silvery fish
and lure them into his frying pan.
Flowers nod their dainty heads
beneath the shelter of the trees
who spread their branches overhead,
whispering and rustling in the breeze.

Autumn comes with changing colors
yellow , russet, red and gold.
Shedding leaves will surely fall
upon the ground before winters cold,

leaving a blanket to cover the earth
and all the wonders that lie below
the magnificent mantle nature weaves,
protecting all from winters snow.

Until the warm and golden sun
in springtime sends her heated rays
to melt the icy frosted earth'
to bring again the glowing days

With springs revival creatures stand
amidst the shadows on the ledge
eating tender shoots of grass
or drinking at the waters edge.
Boys on homemade rafts of logs
pretend to be Indian or scout.
While drifting calm or riding rapids
brave hearts all adventure out.

Each will launch his trusty raft.
All will play adventures game
like father and grandfather before.
Each generation just the same.

Over roots and rocks and things
never ending the water goes.
Over and over the songs and tales
are sung and retold as the water flows.
